HOW TO STAY SAFE

These are some practical tips compiled by Kwon Self Defence Consultancy specially for ladies and children

AT HOME

  • keep grille, doors and windows locked
  • use the peephole or latch chain to find out who is at the door
  • do not let strangers into the house
  • never let strangers know that you would be alone at home or let them know where your family members are


  • IN THE LIFT

  • never enter a lift with a stranger
  • stand with your back against the wall
  • stand close to the lift buttons

  • IN PUBLIC PLACES

  • never take short cuts through deserted places
  • do not exercise in secluded places
  • be aware of your surrounding. If you feel you are followed go to the nearest busy spot
  • when you are going home alone arrange for someone to walk you home
  • if you feel that someone is following you, walk across the road and make a 180 degree turn

  • GOING HOME FROM SCHOOL

  • go straight home
  • if there is no one at home ask to stay with your neighbour until your family comes back
  • inform your family members where you are immediately

  • WHEN APPROACHED BY A STRANGER

  • do not start a conversation. Turn and walk away
  • never accept gifts or drinks
  • never accept a lift
  • go straight to someone you feel you can trust if someone is harassing you

  • IN THE BUS OR TRAIN

  • sit close to the aisle
  • do not fall asleep
  • tell the bus driver or other passengers if someone makes you feel uncomfortable
